VIVA EL MEXICO!
Katzenstein first traveled to Mexico as a child with his parents at the age of 11. Memories are tricky, often changing over time and taking on a life of their own. What is left of this first trip is a collection of new tastes and smells and colors. He has since made numerous journeys to different parts of the country, but whenever he walks on cobblestone streets the image of narrow passages from that first trip to Taxco always returns. Over the years Mexico has been a collective experience, with each new impression added to the large pile of memories.
The collection of photographs presented here were selected from a larger body of work spanning over 25 years. he images not only cover a wide stretch of time, but they also display an array of visual approaches to this multifarious culture in both black and white and color. Early color work was created with an old Brownie camera, and all of the black and white photographs were captured with a Leica.
