SAVE AZOVSTAL RALLY
On Saturday, May 14 100s of Ukrainians and local supporters gathered in Times Square to show their support for the troops and civilians trapped in the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works in Mariupol, which has been under siege by the Russian military for many weeks. It was announced by the President of Ukraine on May 17 that the evacuation operation of the defenders of Mariupol has began. This statement gives us hope that brave defenders will be brought back to their families safe.
The rally was organized by RAZOM, an organization based in the city that has been instrumental in raising funds to help those in need in Ukraine and sending supplies directly to those organizations on the ground.
As the crowd gathered to hear from Arthur Zgurov, a Razom representative, they held both signs of protest and photographs of Azovstal defenders that heroically protected the city of Mariupol against an overwhelming number of Russian forces. When the speeches were done a march ensued north and then east towards the United Nations.
