JUNETEENTH
This year the holiday that celebrates the liberation of those who had been held as slaves in the United States has taken on special meaning. In New York City people took the streets in all parts of the city, gathering, marching and protesting. This series is from two events in Harlem, an early morning gathering to make signs and pay tribute to those who have died, and a mid-day protest and march from central Harlem to the site of Seneca Village in Central Park. The leaders of the events were African American and young, the participants were from all races and ages. The vibe was proactive and proud.
