A DAY WITHOUT A WOMAN PROTEST
On March 8, 2017 after the speeches concluded at the International Women’s Day rally participants marched west on 59th Street toward the Trump hotel in Columbus Circle, and that’s when things got heated. Leaders of the rally sat with participants in the middle of the street as an act of civil disobedience, blocking all traffic from circulating around the circle. The NYPD Strategic Response Group arrived immediately to first warn the women seated to move out of the street, and then to arrest and clear the area. The large crowd of marchers gathered around on all sides to bear witness to this nonvilolent act of protest.
